THE already started ‘Bright up Guyana’ Mashramani 2013 Competition has seen an added component, called the ‘Fly a Flag’ Competition, for which sponsorship is still being sought. This was disclosed on Monday by Mashramani Planning Committee member, Ms. Nadine Hing, in an interview with the media at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, on Main Street, Georgetown.
She said the aim of the addition is to have visible evidence of the celebration of Guyana’s 43rd Republic Anniversary, by having every property in the country, regardless of size, fly Guyana flags or drape them on their fences.
Hing said Guyanese have a preconceived notion that Mashramani is a one-day activity and this needs to be changed, as there are a number of other activities being staged.
She said everyone needs to know that Guyanese are celebrating their republican milestone in some form or the other, even if they are too old to come out and enjoy the fun and frolic.
According to her, there is a mobile team which will be judging the ‘Bright Up Guyana’ contest during the period February 20 to 22, day and night.
Hing said the Committee is imploring corporate Guyana to come on board and support the rivalry in the following categories, commercial and non-commercial buildings, commercial houses, residences and schools.
Trophies will be presented to the winners in each category on Friday, March 8, she announced.
