Court told… : Search of marijuana smoker yields cocaine

MARK James (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday on charges of trafficking in narcotics and smoking cannabis (marijuana). He appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offences, particulars of which stated that, on February 1, he trafficked in six grammes of cocaine and smoked the marijuana.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, said ranks saw the defendant smoking and a search of his person yielded a whitish substance wrapped in a piece of paper.
The Prosecutor said, at Brickdam Police Station, the substance was tested and weighed in the presence of James, who has to be back in Court on February 15.
