Milerock humble Buxton United 2-0 in GFF Super League feature : … Den Amstel Porknockers, BV/Triumph United battle to 1-1 draw

THE Guyana Football Federation  (GFF) 2012/2013 Super League restarted last Sunday with Milerock romping to a 2-0 win over Buxton United Sports club in the feature game of a double-header at the BV Community Centre ground. That lifted the Linden team off the bottom of the table up to seven points while Buxton remain on 11 points.
In the curtain-raiser, Den Amstel Porknockers battled to a 1-1 draw with the home team BV/Triumph United. Over at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground, the home team Uitvlugt Warriors and Rosignol United battled to a 0-0 stalemate.
The results of last Sunday leave the Super League interestingly poised with another double-header set for the GFC ground tomorrow evening from 18:00hrs.
Defending champions Alpha United will open against Upper Demerara’s Amelia’s Ward United with the main event bringing together Western Tigers and Pele.
Three more matches will be played this Sunday. The Uitvlugt Community Centre ground will host a double-header from 13:30hrs with Den Amstel Porknockers taking on Amelia’s Ward United followed by Uitvlugt Warriors against BV/Triumph United.
Up at the Blairmont Community Centre ground, Rosignol United will oppose Alpha United.
Buxton United went into the Milerock contest as pre-game favourites but Milerock had other ideas as they sought to improve their position from being bottom of the table. The opening exchanges were even but as the game progressed, the Linden side became more clinical.
Following the resumption after the half, it did not take very long for the deadlock to be broken as Joel McKinnon who scored in the 51st minute then Clarence Higgins doubled the lead in the 72nd minute.
The opening game saw BV/Triumph United taking the lead very early, their leading striker Delroy Deen with a powerful left foot shot in the fourth minute yo put them ahead.
BV created opportunities but lacked the killer instinct and their lack of driving home the advantage would come back to haunt them later on.
Den Amstel, a side that showcased a number of young talented players kept on pressing and were rewarded with the equalising goal in the 44th minute when Rodwell Hutson found the back of the net
