THE sixth annual National Milling Company (NAMILCO) football tournament, organised by the Fruta Conquerors football club, will officially kick off tonight at Tucville Community Centre. Tonight’s opening fixture brings together the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Northern Rangers from 18:00hrs then the Guyana Police Force (GPF) will attempt to arrest Seawall United.
Under the theme ‘One Love’, 16 teams drawn from within the five sub-associations affiliated to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), will compete for the winners’ purse of $1.2M. Second through fourth will receive $600 000, $400 000 and $200 000 respectively.
Meanwhile, the other playing dates for the tournament are February 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20 and 24 with matches set for the Tucville ground.
According to Fruta Conquerors president Wayne Forde, there is a possibility of moving some games to other venues as the tournament advances.
