Giftland launches massive promotion drive for 15th anniversary

FIFTEEN years ago, Giftland Office Max opened their  doors as a megastore on Water Street, and yesterday  they  launched their  ‘15 – 15’ promotion, which will see their ardent supporters not only cashing in on some major discounts, but also having a chance to win daily prizes. alt“We want, at the end, the customers and the people who have been supporting Giftland from Day One to be the ones benefiting mostly from this promotion,” Company Marketing Manager, Compton Bobb, told the Guyana Chronicle.

The promotion will see shoppers benefiting from 15% discounts on selected items storewide, while, according to Bobb, Giftland will also be introducing their 15-day ‘Lucky Dip’ promo, geared to enhancing their image as the “store that always gives back”.

“Beginning from February 15, for fifteen days, what we’ll do is give shoppers spending $3,000 and over a chance to win other fabulous prizes from our store,” Bobb said. “I don’t want to say what those prizes will be right now but knowing Giftland it will be big. This is our way of saying thanks to the many persons who have been with this store from day one.”

Giftland, Bobb said, is also synonymous with change, reflecting on the entity’s location and the bad press it had received because of the stigma attached to the Tiger Bay area.

“When we first moved here, people had plenty to say because of the stigma on the Tiger Bay area but we have embraced this community, the people in the area and provided employment in many ways and form for its residents and aided in the development of the area. So we have been happy here with the people and the people happy with us,” Bobb explained.

The promotion, he said, should be seen as no different from the numerous charitable donations Giftland has made in the 15 years they have been in the private sector.

“Over the years, Giftland has done many things to help in the development of Guyana,” Bobb said, adding:“This promotion, I don’t think it’s no different; only thing is that we are targeting the customers directly.”

In 2009, Giftland began construction of their US$30M mall at Lilliendaal, East Coast Demerara which Bobb said will be completed between October and November this year.

The mall is being done in phases and the first phase was supposed to be finished in time for Mash (February 23). Bobb, however, noted that there has been some setback but it will be coming in October or November this year. “We are very excited about this project as well,” he stated.
