Albion Cricket Club disappointed at non-selection of Chattergoon, Motie and Foo

ALBION Cricket Club (ACC) has questioned the selection criteria used by the senior selection committee of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to select Guyana’s Regional four-day and Super50 squads. According to the club, players’ performances were not considered by the selection panel to select the team and as such the entire panel should resign which is headed by Rayon Griffith should they fail to provide proper justification at the non-selection of several top Berbice players.
Former West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon and national Under-19 player Gudakesh Motie were the leading run- scorer and highest wicket-taker respectively in the just concluded Inter-county matches and while all the other CT 20 players were either selected or listed as standby there was no place for young Jonathan Foo.
Chattergoon, a highly disciplined and committed cricketer, scored consistently during the four-day tournament with scores of 114, 54, 89 – the most by any batsman – and with no Narsingh Deonarine, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, his experience could ensure that Guyana do well.
On the other hand, Motie has done well for Guyana at the youth level since 2007 at age 11. He claimed 20 wickets also – the most by any bowler – and made valuable contributions with the bat for BCB. Motie had also taken 78 wickets in Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) competitions for last year.
The executives of ACC would stand firm behind its cricketers and would not allow the injustice being done by these selectors to go unnoticed.
The press release further stated that while ACC recognised the non-support of the BCB to the GCB, Berbice players should not be hurt in this tussle for power as the administrators’ job is to manage cricket and the cricketers have to play the games.
Albion is also calling on all the relevant stakeholders to voice their concern for this madness to stop and the selectors to justify the selection of certain players in the squad which should have included Sewnarine Chattergoon, Gudakesh Motie, Jonathan Foo, Anthony Bramble, Eon Hooper and others.
