A Board of Inquiry into the death of Guyana Defence Force soldier, Lance Corporal Eon Blair has been established to determine the circumstances under which he died. CHIEF-OF-STAFF, Commodore Gary Best on Wednesday ordered that a Board of Inquiry (BOI) be established to probe the death of Blair, who passed away on Friday January 18 during the army’s annual five-mile fitness run.
The army said upon completion the findings of the inquiry will be disseminated to the media.
However, a post-mortem performed on the body of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Lance Corporal, Eon Blair by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, gave the cause of death as lung failure and blockage of the heart.
Blair of Lot 305 Number 51 Village, Corentyne, Berbice died after complaining of chest pains during the army’s fitness run on January 18.
A press release from GDF said that Blair, 28, was participating in the five-mile run with other members of his unit when he experienced chest pains in the vicinity of the Umana Yana on High Street.
He was immediately placed into the accompanying ambulance and taken to the Force’s Medical Centre in Camp Ayanganna, then subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he died.
Lance Corporal Blair was a serving member for nine years, having enlisted in 2004, GDF said.
