THE Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) joins the sporting fraternity in mourning the death of Joseph Lee Lam, who passed away suddenly on Friday, January 18, 2013.
The former international lifter, known mostly to those in the sport as Joe or Sam, was a member and past vice-president of the Weightlifting Association and the owner and head coach of the Bosco Gym.
Throughout the years of his involvement in the sport he was successful as a lifter and as a coach. He produced a number of National champions, some of whom went on to represent Guyana abroad with the most famous being Stanley Braithwaite.
Lee Lam was a CAC bronze medallist in 1978 and a World Master gold medallist in the year 1998.
He leaves to mourn his wife Rose, family, friends and the sports fraternity. The octogenarian will be laid to rest today.
