Second motorcycle road fatality within 36 hrs… GPL employee killed in Harbour Bridge accident

POLICE have launched an investigation into a fatal accident that occurred at about 13:20 hrs yesterday on the Demerara Harbour Bridge, and which resulted in the death of Lemuel Ogle, 22 years, of Middle Street, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.

altInvestigations by the police, so far,  revealed that motor car, HC 110, was proceeding west along the bridge, while Lenuel Ogle was driving his motor cycle, CG 4998, in the opposite direction. It is alleged that the motorcyclist skidded on the bridge and collided with the motor car.
He received injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the motor car is in police custody, assisting with the investigations.
Chronicle was told that, sometime around 13:20 hrs, Ogle was on his motorcycle heading to the City, after a brief shower of rain which left the harbour bridge wet.

The man’s recently purchased motorcycle reportedly skidded on the wet surface of the bridge, causing him to end up underneath a motor car which was heading in the opposite direction.
According to Leana Ogle, sister of the deceased, her brother was heading to Georgetown to visit another sibling whom he was scheduled to uplift something from. She said that Ogle worked at the Guyana Power and Light’s Garden of Eden Power Station. The young lady added that yesterday was his ‘day off’ from work.
Leana, speaking with the Chronicle at the GPHC, explained that she was conducting some business in Georgetown when she received a call from her mother instructing her to visit the hospital. Leana said her mother informed her that her brother was involved in an accident.
altThe young lady said when she visited the hospital; the police refused to give her any information about the accident and told her that they preferred to speak with someone older. Leana said she then immediately called her sister, who works at the Christ Church Secondary School, to rush down to the hospital, following which they were both informed by hospital personnel that their brother was involved in an accident on the Demerara Harbour Bridge and that he did not survive.
When the man’s distraught mother visited the hospital yesterday, she wept uncontrollably, and even fainted for a brief period after which she was placed to sit on a bench at the hospital and consoled by relatives.alt
The woman was overheard commenting that it was only yesterday morning that the family had their customary morning devotions and the now dead man led the proceedings in prayer. Also present at the hospital yesterday was Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Police Force, Mr Ivelaw Whittaker and other members of the Guyana Police Force. The dead man is said to be the brother of a rank of the Guyana Police Force.
