Five teams victorious on Beach Football opening day

FIVE teams were victorious on the opening day of the Guyana Beach Football Association (GBFA) 2013 Coca Cola League and Cup which got under way at the Bayroc ground in Linden last Saturday.

Defending champs Vasco defeated Silvertown All Star 5-2 with Ameer Allicock scoring a hat-trick and his teammates Mervin Sobers and Michael Wilson scoring a goal each against Silvertown, who had a goal each from Mark Hope and Jamal Haynes.
In the second game, Cool Runnings beat Winners by a massive 11-2 margin as Sean Brewley netted five goals. His teammate Ron Fiedtkou scored a helmet-trick (4 goals) while Marlon Benjamin and Rawle Gittens scored a goal each.
Blueberry Hill defeated Alikyu 3-0 in the third game with Troy Miller netting a double and his teammate, Keith Gilkes, scoring the other.
Eagles United then won a tough match 5-4 against Netrockers as Allan Halley scored a hat-trick and his teammate Derron Smith scored a double for the eventual winners. Orande Wills, Deshawn Joseph, Colric Beckles and Ray Fraser scored a goal each for Netrockers.
Shattas FC gained a walkover from Timehri Panthers who failed to show for their match.
Earlier in the day, Banks DIH’s Outdoor Events Manager, Mortimer Stewart, in his remarks, wished the teams a successful tournament, which his company sponsored in its commitment to development beach football.
