JUSTICE Roxanne George, yesterday, refused bail to Brazilian Lucas Rodriques De Oliveira after his documentation revealed that he had overstayed his time in this country.
Last December 8, De Oliveira had attempted to leave Guyana for Suriname at the Moleson Creek Ferry Crossing after uttering, to Police Inspector Brown, a Federal Republic of Brazil passport with false information.
His travel document said the Moleson Creek entry stamp number 9 and departure stamp number 1 were inserted in it that he may use it as genuine, knowing same to be false.
The foreigner had, previously, appeared at Springlands Magistrate’s Court where he was remanded to prison but, in an affidavit of support, the petitioner, Jose Da Rocha, uncle of the prisoner, stated that the 18-year-old lived with him for three years at Lot 144 Regent Street, Georgetown.
Da Rocha, proprietor of Churrascarce Mundial, an Italian restaurant, claimed that his nephew had attended St. Mary’s Primary School in the city but the teenager is, currently, in a relationship and is expected to wed in the near future.
The testament said, while De Oliveira lawfully entered Guyana at Lethem, Rupununi, the only offence he is guilty of is overstaying his time in this country.
Attorney-at-law Mr. CharrandasPersaud represented the petitioner.
