GUYANA police are still awaiting the DNA results, from Barbados, in relation to the September 10, 2010 murder of Sheema Mangar, Deputy Commissioner (Law Enforcement) Seelall Persaud said yesterday. He told the Guyana Chronicle that samples from the piece of her Demerara Bank uniform and hair recovered under the motor car that struck her were sent to the Caribbean island for examination.
The Crime Chief said local police have since been in contact with their overseas counterparts but the analysis is yet to be completed and that is stalling the investigation process here.
Mangar was at North Road and Camp Street, in Georgetown, waiting for transport when her Blackberry cell phone was snatched from her.
The 21-year-old woman chased after the robber but he entered a vehicle that drove off and, when Mangar placed herself in front of it, in an effort to stop the thief, she was run over and dragged several feet before it sped away.
Public-spirited citizens rushed her to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), from where she was transferred to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and died there the next day.
Initially, two suspects were held but, later, released and, although other persons were questioned, no one was ever charged with the crime.
