POLICE report that motor car PKK 5970 was travelling at a fast rate of speed in the opposite direction when it struck dead 42-year-old Vincent Barclay of ‘D’ Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, at Mandela Avenue in the vicinity of the gas station yesterday morning. The accident, which occurred at about 05:35 hrs, caused Barclay to fall off the bicycle and land some distance away.
Rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), Barclay was pronounced dead on arrival.
The car came to a stop after it landed on its roof. Its driver is in police custody assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, Police Traffic Department at Eve Leary has disclosed that, for this year, 99 road accidents were recorded in which 107 persons were killed; while, for the corresponding period last year, 105 road accidents were recorded, in which 114 persons lost their lives. (Michel Outridge)
