Guyanese are left to the mercy of Trini Gods

IT’s great to read this bit of good news out of Guyana but with it there might be very bad news to come. A grand Guyanese Christmas welcome awaited more than 500 passengers arriving at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), early Sunday morning. With a dancing Santa, and the sounds of a one-man band to guide their way, visitors were given the traditional black cake, compliments of the Guyana Tourism Authority.
So far as I can gather from visitors wanting to come home for Christmas with Caribbean Airline there are two prices to be paid.
One price for a one stop-over flight in Trinidad and an almost double price for a direct flight from Toronto.
I think our government jumped the gun too fast in giving Caribbean Airlines national flag carrier status for Guyana.
Caribbean Airlines will bury Guyanese in the near future again like it did to Guyanese for many years.
Will there be two different flights and two different prices to be paid by Guyanese wanting to fly Caribbean Airlines for going to Guyana?
One flight where Guyanese would pay less for a stop-over in Trinidad and another that almost double that price for Guyanese wanting to come home on direct flights?
My nephew will be home on Christmas Day travelling with Caribbean Airlines for over US$800 with a stop in Trinidad since his EZjet direct flight was cancelled.
When he asked what happened to Caribbean Airlines direct flight from Toronto to Guyana he was promptly told that would be US$1,300.
If this will be Caribbean Airlines trend then I am afraid Guyanese will be tossed under the ‘Trini Bus’ yet again like we were for so many God darn years.
Most Guyanese realise lots of politics were being played to get rid of EZjet between opposition politicians and Caribbean Airlines.
If this is what our Government bargained for to give Caribbean Airlines national flag carrier status then travelling Guyanese will be made to pay Caribbean Airlines the ultimate price.
I would often book business class with the very Caribbean Airlines in the past where it would cost no more than US$1150 but for the past few years Caribbean Airlines were doubling the price for business class to what was charged for coach.
This year when I travelled with Caribbean Airlines I paid US$786 and when asked the price for business class I was told US$1,550.
This will be the new Caribbean Airlines price trend for flying passenger one stop in Trinidad and non-stop direct from Toronto to Guyana.
Yet again Guyanese are left to the mercy of the Trini Gods all because our government failed and is failing to see what Caribbean Airlines are doing to Guyanese passengers.
Will it be about US$800 for the stop over flight in Trinidad then off to Guyana and about US$1300 for the
non-stop flight direct from Toronto to Guyana?
If this is so then I am afraid Guyanese are right back to square one where Caribbean Airlines took more than advantage on Guyanese for so many years.
