KMTC Boxing Day horserace meeting gallops off tomorrow

THE BUSH Lot Corentyne-based Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) will culminate their activities for this year tomorrow, with a grand day of horseracing from 13:00hrs, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Ansa McAl and the Ramnarayan Family out of New York. Nine races are carded for the day, which will see most of the top stables, horses and jockeys in the country battling for supremacy, with the feature event seeing horses classified B and Lower do battle over a distance of one mile, with a total prize money of close to $3M, of which the top horse will cart off half of that amount.
The Three-Years-Old race for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies has a $600 000 bounty for the winner over 1600m, Two-Years-Old Guyana and West Indies-bred event will see the horses gallop over 1200m for the $500 000 first prize on offer.  
The E Class event has a winning haul of $500 000 and trophy available for the top horse who crosses the finish line first after competing over a distance of 1200 metres, with the G Class event being a 1400m affair and will see the champion horse take home a winner’s $400 000 and trophy.
The race for Guyana-bred two years old horses will see the winning horse take home $300 000 and trophy also over 1200m, the H Class winning prize is pegged at $300 000 and trophy for the winner with the distance being 1000m.
There are two other exciting races on the day’s card for animals classified ‘I’ and Lower over 1200m with takings of $200 000.  The other event is for the animals classified J and Lower over 1000m for a pole-position prize of $150 000.
Among some of the jockeys expected to be in the saddles tomorrow are: Andron Findlay, Brian Blake, Yap ‘Old Boy’ Drepaul, Colin Ross, Paul Delph, Carl Liverpool, Rupert ‘Put’ Ramnauth, Daniel ‘Buckman’ Flores, Kevin Paul, Mark Vassey, Rad Drepaul, Krishna Singh, Navin Ally, Mahendra Sukhoo, Nacimento, Michael Sancho, Prem Chandra, Winston Apadhu and Kevin Richmond, Ajai, Junior and Brandon Solomon.
Most of the top stables are in full preparation and are expected to be represented on race day, such as Colin Elcock’s Delmur and P&P Syndicate Racing Stable, Jagdeo Racing stable, Asrafali Racing Stables, Dennis De Roop Simple Royal and the Jumbo Jet Stables, among others
Outstanding performers, including top jockey, top stable and top trainer will be presented with accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall in Bourda Market and Hadi’s City Mall Incorporated.
