Kumar intervenes to end RSTC and PMTC month long impasse … IMC Chairman pleased

THANKS to the timely intervention of Director of Sport Neil Kumar, the month-long impasse between the Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC) of West Berbice and the Corentyne-based Port Mourant Turf Clubs (PMTC) as it relates to which club would hold its end-of-year horse race meet on December 30, has come to an end.

It was agreed that the Port Mourant Turf Club will stage their meet on December 30 while the Rising Sun Turf Club will have their meet on January 5, 2013, after representatives of both clubs met with Kumar, Chairman of the sport’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), retired Chancellor of the Judiciary Justice Cecil Kennard, and Dennis Deroop, representative of the Horse Owners and Trainers representatives.
Prior to the meeting both clubs were holding firm that their meetings should be held on December 30, contending that it was scheduled in advance.
However, secretary of the Port Mourant Turf Club, Chattergoon Ramnauth, had noted that due to the RSTC being underwater at this time of the year, the PMTC was given the scheduled date, a decision that reflected the maturity of the representatives of both sides and one that was complimented by Kumar.
Both Kumar and Kennard said the purpose of the meeting was achieved, with Kumar going on to challenge the officials from both the cricket and football fraternities to display similar maturity, in order to have the issues in their respective sporting disciplines resolved as quickly as possible.
