A PRISON officer was yesterday remanded to prison after he attempted to smuggle narcotics into the Camp Street Prison.
Maheshwar Jealall (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on December 17, at the Camp Street Prison in Georgetown, he trafficked 70 grammes of cannabis sativa (ganga).
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, said on the day in question the defendant took two jerseys into the prison and was seen entering a restricted area in the said prison.
The prosecutor said a search was conducted on the defendant and the alleged narcotics were found wrapped in the two jerseys.
