RODWELL Brumell, 22, an employee of Farfan and Mendes Limited, was last evening killed after he was struck down by a motor car which reportedly hit him from behind.
The young man and his girlfriend were walking along the road in the vicinity of Lamaha and Carmichael Streets when the accident occurred.
Brumell used to live at Beterverwagting on the East Coast of Demerara and at Richmond Hill in Linden.
This publication was told that the man pushed his girlfriend whose name was given as Samantha Benn to safety in an attempt to prevent her from being hit by the car, which was described as being ‘red’ in colour.
No one at the scene last night was able to get a number plate for the vehicle. However, a broken part of the red vehicle was recovered and the police have taken possession of it.
When this publication attempted to speak with the distraught girlfriend of the man she refused to entertain any conversation.
However, she made no bones in announcing that “this is what my parents wanted all along so I hope they are happy”.
The relatives of the dead man, when questioned, said that Brumell had indicated several times in the past that the parents of the girl were not comfortable with them seeing each other.
The police are investigating.
