Man charged with mining camp generator larceny

CLAIRMONT Noel, of Lot 635 Industrial Area, Mackenzie, Linden, faced a simple larceny charge before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday.

It was alleged that, between November 30 and December 1, he stole one Honda generator, valued $500,000, property of Leow Da Silva but the defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Police Corporal Vinetta Pindar, prosecuting, said Noel is known to the virtual complainant who operates a mining camp.
The prosecutor said, on November 30, Da Silva saw the defendant in his camp but the next day the latter and the engine were missing.
The prosecutor had no objection to bail but requested that it be substantial to ensure the defendant returns for trial.
Consequently, the magistrate set surety at $200,000 and transferred the case to Mahdia Court, Potaro, for January 16, 2013.
