Venezuelan fined for illegal entry

A VENEZUELAN national was fined $30,000 with the alternative of six months imprisonment yesterday, for entering Guyana illegally. Teran Herrera Jaime De Jesus appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley and pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated it was committed on December 8.
The defendant entered the country by sea and failed to present himself to an immigration officer.
Through an interpreter, he told the Court that he did not realise the date on his document was so close.
