It said more than 60,000 refunds will be paid to employees who filed their individual returns, and whose respective employer(s) have submitted their employers’ Form 2s.
GRA stated that currently, refunds between the amounts of $500 to $1000 are being paid to eligible taxpayers. In this category, an estimated 5,000 taxpayers stand to benefit from the payout. The agency will publish the names of approximately five hundred (500) eligible taxpayers weekly on its website www.gra.gov.gy, and a list will be available for the public’s viewing at its Headquarters on Camp Street. Taxpayers can also view the list at the nearest GRA Integrated Regional Tax Office.
Taxpayers whose names appear on the list are required to visit the GRA’s Headquarters on Camp Street to uplift their refund on or before January 31, 2013. Persons who fail to do so will have their refunds converted into a credit to be used to offset liabilities owing for previous years or that may be incurred in future years.
The Commissioner-General, Khurshid Sattaur stressed that the public’s cooperation is vital to having the process conducted in a smooth, efficient and orderly fashion. He is urging taxpayers to equip themselves with a valid form of Identification (National Identification Card or Passport) and proof of address when coming to uplift their refunds.
Further, taxpayers are asked to take this opportunity to ensure that their addresses associated with their TINs have been updated, particularly those who have changed their residence, to ensure that they are refunded in a timely manner.
This can be done easily by bringing in a proof of address and valid identification as stated above to our new Head Office located on Camp Street, GRA said.
