IT’S the season of giving and, as the holidays approach, many people look for ways to help the needy.
There are many children who will not get any Christmas gifts if it were not for the support of better- off members of the community and a fun and easy way to help those in need in your Administrative Region is to buy one for them.
And the 58-year-old Radio Needy Children’s Fund (RNCF), coordinated by the National Communications Network (NCN) is one route through which the more fortunate can direct their generosity.
The Fund will be hosting Christmas parties for that target group in all 10 Administrative Regions and Georgetown, starting December 13 at the Genito Urinary Medicine (GUM) clinic and continuing with the big party at NCN, on Homestretch Avenue, among others in Region 4 (Demerara/Mahaica), on December 16.
The main activity, though, is a toy-collection drive that begins today, RNCF Administrative Assistant, Ms. Linda Williams disclosed.
She said the organisation will be placing barrels at a number of shopping centres around the city into which toy donations can be put from 09:00hrs. Those places include Nigel’s Supermarket, Ashmin’s Trading, De Sinco and Beacon Foundation.
“Bring a toy or two and help to brighten the Christmas for some less fortunate children,” Williams appealed.
She reminded, too, that those who may not have toys to give can donate money either at NCN Headquarters, Homestretch Avenue or at Demerara Bank.
Meanwhile, as they are preparing for the receipt of toys and other donations, RNCF officials were busy packing gifts already received for transportation to volunteers who will distribute them in each of the Administrative Regions.
Williams explained that the Fund officials would, usually, travel from the city to all the outlying areas where RNCF Christmas parties are hosted but have identified volunteers who will take charge of the gifts and arrange for the distribution of the much appreciated cheer.
For those children who benefit, thanks, once again, to the RNCF, the words ‘Merry Christmas’ will resonate throughout the holidays and well into the new year.
