GOVERNMENT will be meeting with representatives from the Opposition and Region 10 administration to discuss issues pertaining to the Technical Committee on Electricity and the Economic Committee.
At a post-Cabinet press briefing yesterday at Office of the President, Presidential Advisor on Governance, Gail Teixeira standing in for Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon, said that Regional Chairman of Region 10, Sharma Solomon and his delegation did not reject
nor approve government’s nominee to chair the Economic Committee.
Instead, the Opposition put forward two alternate nominees for each Committee. These are: Dr. Clive Thomas, Christopher Ram, Emily Johnson, and Lincoln Lewis.
With regards to some of the concerns they raised in relation to television licences, Teixeira said the Guyana Broadcasting Authority will be inviting the applicants from Region 10 to visit their office to be advised on the legal procedures that they will have to follow.
The two technical teams were established to review the Linden electricity tariffs shortly after the protests in the mining town which left three persons dead and several injured.
Subsequently, the work of the electricity technical team set up in August was halted when the Chairman, Narvon Persaud, tendered his resignation.
