GOLDSMITH Zaheer Salim, of Lot 79 Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, has been charged with fraudulent conversion.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, between September 1 and October 2 last, being entrusted, by Edith Stoll, with one gold and diamond chain valued $200,000, he fraudulently converted it to his own use and benefit.
Police Corporal Vinetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant gave Salim the jewel to add four more pennyweights but he made use of it.
The prosecutor did not object and the defendant was granted $150,000 bail until January 18, 2013.
