CHIEF FIRE OFFICER, Marlon Gentle yesterday said that the completion of the specialised Leonora Training School for firefighters is expected to be completed in early 2013 following the start of Phase Two of the project which is being undertaken in the compound of the Leonora Fire Station, West Coast Demerara.
He added that Phase Two entails the construction of the main building, barracks, mess hall, accommodation area and the lecture hall.
Gentle stated that Phase Two will also see the construction of the building for the Training School, an open tarmac and a simulated area for all demonstrations as it regards to training in both firefighting and administrative support.
He said that Phase One saw the completion of the fence, construction of culverts, bridges and the leveling of the land which is approximately four acres.
The Chief Fire Officer added that it will be the first dedicated area for the GFS where training will be done and will accommodate most of the training needs of the GFS with all basic amenities including, accommodation, classrooms, facilities of both practical and theory training in all disciplines of fire fighting and firemanship.
Gentle noted that Phase One of the Capital Project which comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) amounted to $25M.
He pointed out that with the completion of the Leonora Training School for the GFS it will be the first dedicated area for all aspects of training which is welcomed by the GFS.
