During Region 9 outreach… Sukhai blames opposition budgetary cuts for incomplete projects

MINISTER of Amerindian Affairs, Ms. Pauline Sukhai said in Region 9 (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) that the 2012 budgetary cuts by the political opposition, are the reason for a number of projects not being completed.

altShe was speaking to residents, in Annai Primary School, Rupununi, during an outreach visit, when she made mention of hindrances to hinterland development.
Sukhai said, among the unfinished schemes is the electrification programme that is expected to see the second phase implemented and resulting in significant improvements for Amerindian villages.
About the One Laptop For Family (OLPF), she explained that the funding to secure the power supply for the related hubs is still to be approved and more computers should be available shortly.
The minister noted that the Anna Village Council has a number of incomplete programmes and no proper accounting methods for finances which need to be corrected.
The council, which was on a hot spot for the incompletion of several projects, sought assistance from Sukhai in the areas of solar power, education, potable water, paralegal training and school uniform aid.
However, the minister, who gave a detailed response to the various issues raised said she would report them to the respective subject ministries.
