A NATION’S health is of vital importance since it is central to its socio-economic development, for it is only a mentally and physically fit workforce that can perform the many functions that are central to its viability.
The billions invested yearly via the national health budget, has led to significantly transformative and beneficial changes to the state’s health delivery system and it signals that the PPP/C government is underlining its serious concern about the nation’s health, particularly treating preventable illnesses.
The recent collaboration between the
Ministry of Health and the Masjid An Najm, where a medical outreach was taken to the Albouystown ward, must therefore be seen as another step in that important direction, and ought to be commended for its proactive and visionary approach.
If, as the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shamdeo Persaud indicated, similar exercises can be carried to the distant areas of Mahdia, Lethem and Mabaruma, it will be a major achievement, even supplementing health facilities already in those areas. Such a strategy will go a very far way in terms of promoting health awareness countrywide, apart from offering continued assistance to those already under treatment.
To go south, is indeed thoughtful, for it signals that the health of every citizen in whatever locale is indeed of primary concern to the health authorities, and that there is no discrimination because of class or social status. All must/will benefit for a healthier nation.
