Woman killed in suspected hit-and-run accident

THE  badly disfigured body of 44-year-old Bibi Salima Khan of Belle West, Canal Number 2 Polder, West Bank Demerara was Saturday evening on the Crane Public Road, West Coast Demerara in what the police are treating as a ‘hit and run’ accident. On Saturday night, the dead woman’s sister, True Simpson, said she was in her bed when she received  a call that her sister’s body was at the morgue. The woman said she enquired what the body was doing there, and was then informed that her sister might have been the victim of  a hit-and-run accident.
Simpson said she then joined a taxi and travelled to the Ezekiel Funeral Home in the neighbouring Best Village  where she positively identified the body to be that of her sister’s.
The distraught woman said her mother made three children and the now dead woman was the youngest. She added that her brother had also passed away, now leaving her to be the only child for her mother alive.
Simpson said her mother is 72 years old and lives alone. On Saturday night, the woman told the Chronicle that she is not sure if her mother would be able to deal with the tragic news of losing another child.
The police are said to be investigating the matter. (Leroy Smith)
