At a simple but significant ceremony held at the company’s Betterverwagting (B.V) head office, Kashif Mohammad reminisced on the life of Nasir and his contribution towards sports and primarily the tournament.
Mohammad said that Nasir was a “generous giver; more than that, he was a man who always targeted worthy causes. He gave to causes that shaped and influenced people’s lives and what is remarkable is that is that he asked nothing for himself in return; sport was one of those causes.”
Apart from supporting teams that participated in the K&S Tournament, Nasir and Bakewell were avid supporters and contributors of the National Senior Football Team, more popularly known as the Golden Jaguars.
It was also an initiative of Nasir to afford thousands of school children to attend matches in the Kashif and Shanghai tournament with Bakewell spending millions in tickets that are usually distributed to schools around Guyana.
The 23rd Kashif and Shanghai football tournament will kick off on Sunday December 16 at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground.
16 teams will be in contention this year, with the winner pocketing $4M and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) driving away with a brand new motor car.
