87 karate students pass grading exams

LAST Sunday at YMCA, Thomas Lands, a whopping 87 karatekas were graded by Sensei Amir Khouri for Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai.
Outstanding among the KYU Grades were Chris Gill and Samuel Messias who skipped Yellow belt and gained the Orange belt, and Safiyyah Baksh who skipped Orange belt and earned the Green belt. Promoted to Shodan/1st Degree Black belt was Mohamed Hamid who was the only karateka to obtain a Black belt.
On the day, twelve students were promoted to Yellow belt (8 kyu), 25 students were promoted to Orange belt (7 kyu), nine students were promoted to Green belt (6 kyu), 12 students promoted to Blue belt (5kyu), eight students were promoted to Purple belt (4 kyu), eight students promoted to Brown belt (3 kyu), seven students promoted to Brown belt (2 kyu) and five students promoted to Brown belt (1 kyu).
Meanwhile, the three other grading exams will be held across the country next month. The first will be in Linden on December 1, the second will be at the Albion Community Centre ground in Berbice on December 2 and the final will be at Anna Regina Multilateral School in Essequibo on December 15.
