BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) – Sports Minister Glenn Phillip has appealed to residents here to throw their support behind the Special Olympics movement in St Kitts and Nevis. The Minister’s appeal in a special television address marked the start of a series of activities aimed at promoting the movement in the federation.
Activities are being held across the country this week highlighting the impact of Special Olympics on the population.
“I am truly pleased to witness the continuous and effective efforts made by Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis to improve and sustain the holistic development of the Special Olympic athletes and their quality of life,” Phillip stated.
“This certainly helps to build their personal level of confidence and strengthen their relationship (with) parents, the work places and the community in general.”
Activities are being held under the theme ‘Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis on the Move” and educators, business leaders and volunteers are among those being highlighted for their role in supporting the movement.
Activities include a street parade, a dollar drive as well as the Launch of a Special Olympics newsletter and a parent support group.
The government in Basseterre has promised to continue essential support to the Special Olympics movement in the country.
