Seven-yr-old drowns in Demerara River

SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Leon Daniels, of Kwakwani, Berbice River, reportedly drowned yesterday when the boat he was travelling in with his teenaged uncle capsized in the Demerara River in the vicinity of West Watooka, Linden. Police reported that at about 12:40hrs, Leon was in a small wooden boat operated by his uncle, Brian Lewis, 17, also of  Kwakwani, and in the vicinity of West Watooka the boat capsized.
 
They both fell overboard and Brian Lewis surfaced.  A search was mounted for Leon Daniels who was subsequently found and rushed   to the Mackenzie Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
 
Brian Lewis has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with investigations.
