Power to return to Lethem today : -Board Chairman

CHAIRMAN of the Board of the Lethem Power Company (LMPCI), Christopher Moses has confirmed that the power situation in the community will return to normalcy today as all measures have been taken to rectify the situation, and final tests will be undertaken for the community to be illuminated. In an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), Moses stated that while the Board regrets the recent incident, mechanisms have been put in place to have an acceptable level of generation by December in the Region 9 community.
A contract has been awarded, after selective tendering, under which an engine for a 750kva FG Wilson gen-set would be sourced in Florida and flown to Guyana, and the unit is to be back in operation by December 14, he said.
Two additional gen-set engines have been sourced through support from Government, and are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2013.
“LMPCI extends regrets to the people of Lethem, and begs their patience until the FG Wilson 625kva and 750kva units have been restored. Until then, LMPCI has had to resort to the Caterpillar 350kva set from the earlier “lights at night” mandate,” a release from the Board stated on Wednesday.
In going forward, the Board maintains that prior to the failure; the engines were functioning to capacity, providing adequate generation.
Moses is calling on the residents of Lethem to bear with the power company as normalcy will be returned shortly.
