ALISTAIR Johnson, 24, of Lot 5 Section ‘C’ Wismar, Linden, appeared before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with receiving a stolen motor car.
Particulars of the offence, to which he pleaded not guilty, stated that, on November 18, he received, from Quincy Fordyce, PPP 4131 valued $3.7M, property of Sonia Solomon, knowing it to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained. Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, said ranks received certain information and stopped the vehicle being driven by the defendant who denied ownership of it.
The prosecutor said Johnson was then arrested and taken to the police station and told the car had been stolen from Solomon.
Defence Counsel Gordon Gilhuys said the defendant was unaware that the vehicle had been stolen, as his cousin gave him it to use.
Johnson was granted $100,000 bail until November 28. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
