Police had previously reported that Bacchus, for whom a wanted bulletin was issued, turned himself in, on November 20, for questioning, accompanied by his lawyer, Mr. Ramesh Rajkumar.
Dianand, a narcotics detective known for making drug busts in Berbice, was executed with two bullets in the head and a post-mortem, performed by Government Pathologist, Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan, verified the cause of death as gunshot injuries.
Dianand’s body was found slumped in his motor car, PHH 6528, on a desolate stretch of road at Jackson Creek, Upper Corentyne with two bullet wounds to his head.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud had, initially, said Dianand was killed by someone known to him because he suffered two gunshots.
He posited that Dianand was not driving at the time and the shooter seemed to be shooting from inside the car, as against outside.
The top police officer pointed out that the windows of the vehicle were wound up and the windscreen was not damaged, indicating that the assailant was within. Two warheads were recovered but no spent shells.
Dianand, 23, was stationed at Moleson Creek Police Outpost and attached to the Narcotics Branch.
