JUST days after captain of the Golden Jaguars, Christopher Nurse, lashed out at officials of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), his team mate Vurlon Mills also spoke out against the current administration and also refuses to compete for the National team if they are still in office.
Chronicle Sport received word from Mills via email. It begins, “Vurlon Mills, player of the Guyana National Team no longer wants to play for Guyana under the current administrators of the Federation. We, the players of the Guyana Football Team, are being treated badly to represent the nation”.
“Footballers of the current national programme and even players before us have complained about the handling of affairs from the federation and how they continue to treat us with no respect and loyalty.”
“Numerous amounts of moneys are owed to players of the Guyana National Football Team. A signed agreement was made prior to the home game, against Mexico, in Texas, with four (4) members of the current governing body including acting president Frankie Wilson.”
The letter went on to say “Mr Adonis and Mr Rutherford were not at the meeting. However, when they were later informed they vetoed the decision and showed a complete lack of loyalty and integrity to the national programme.
“Guyana made history on the 11th of October 2011 (11-11-11) when we beat Trinidad and Tobago in the 2014 round two (2) World Cup qualifiers, this was the time when Guyana footballers were most marketable to gain sponsorship and also make a name for themselves and yet nothing was done to improve the standard of football in Guyana and the way in which players of the national programme were being treated.
“This will continue to go on forever if no one puts a stop to it. As a member of the national programme, I am asking for a change in the administrators and unless the members of the current federation step down, myself and none of the players want to represent Guyana any longer.”
