Rupununi Expo billed for December

The Rupununi Expo 2012 s billed for December 1 and 2, 2012 at the Triple R Rodeo Ground Lethem under the theme: “Uniting Our Resources for a Secured Future.”

According to a press release issued by the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), this expo is usually held on the third Saturday in November each year.
“However, due to the present electricity and water crisis affecting the Lethem Community, the RCCI has decided to postpone the event from November 24 and 25 for the weekend of December 1 and 2, 2012 according to RCCI President Jacqueline D’Aguiar,” the release stated.
The release further stated that the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), and the Institute of Private Enterprise and Development (IPED) operating in the Rupununi would be holding stalls to sensitize people about their operations.

According to the release, insurance companies like North American Fire and General Insurance Company (NAFICO) and GTM, whose presence in the region is relatively recent and offer services to Brazilians, would reach out to clients and new comers.
“This year the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) would be sponsoring the Miss Rupununi Beauty Pageant. Already there are ten beauties contesting for the Miss Rupununi Crown,” the release noted.
This annual expo, which is also held to commemorate the anniversary of the Rupununi Chamber, formed on 20th November, 1999, usually showcases the products of the Rupununi. “It also exposes farmers and business entrepreneurs to new and improved techniques and methodologies especially in the field of agriculture, where the various arms of the Ministry of Agriculture, NAREI, Forestry, would have on display several new development which farmers from across the region would benefit from,” the release stated.

Also, other agencies, from Coastal Guyana and from within Region 9 take the opportunity to promote their work. The Programme gets on the way at 10.00hrs on Saturday December 1 and on Sunday December 2; there will also be games to entertain the crowd.
