UNLESS the executive of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) has applied to its affiliates and successfully obtained by way of a 2/3 majority, an extension of its administrative life in office, the goodly gentleman may well be treading on dangerous ground in pursuit of enhancing its image as credible office-bearers, seeking an additional two years in office, whenever the AGM is held.
My basic reason (s) for highlighting this and other issues publicly stems from the fact that the life of that august body, is steadfastly coming to an end in the month of December. And I hate to see whenever the impending issue, between the GFF and the GFA is fully resolved; unconstitutionality on the part of the latter takes centre stage. As I had previously advocated in a letter, “The GFA mustn’t provide the GFF with ammunition to shoot itself down.” At this juncture may I enquire if during the course of last year the GFA executive held its Annual General Meeting (Half yearly) pursuant to the required constitutional requirement? Whereby in accordance with the requirements, 14 clear days notice is given to affiliates, the Referees Council and the GFF. In addition to the agenda, the secretary’s and treasurer’s (audited) reports along with a publication in the print medium, outlining the date and venue!
Within the constitutional context of aims and objectives of the GFA! During the two-year period in office, how many competitions were played, encompassing under -11 (Pee-Wee); U -13, U -15, U -17, U -19, U- 21, First Division and Premier League? If all sides are equal it should be 16 over a two-year period, excluding a Knockout involving all senior teams! By the way, with the GFA executive embarking upon its second edition of the (year-end) knockout competition, of which they intend to extend to 24 participating teams, inclusive of possibly one from overseas; along with others from the Associations of East, Upper and West Demerara. Does the executive have the administrative capability and capacity to successfully coordinate this undertaking? Within its budgetary framework how would the executive incorporate accommodation, meals and transportation, to cater for the invitees? With the aims and objectives “to further develop and promote the sport of association football”! How can this be achieved by inviting Georgetown Masters (Veterans) and Banks All-Stars when in actuality affiliates of the GFA would have their teams weakened due to compulsory representation by player(s) to its employee Banks DIH! How does the executive intend to deal with loan/guest players of invitees? While there would always be more questions than answers of relevance, I do, hope that the GFA executive hasn’t bitten off more than it can chew this time around. Nevertheless, best of luck in their endeavour!
