Car larceny accused refused bail

CHRISTOPHER Greaves, 21, of Lot 98 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, was refused bail yesterday on a car larceny charge.

Particulars of the offence alleged that he stole a Honda Civic motor vehicle from in the compound of Rent-a-Tent, at Rahaman’s Park, Houston, East Bank Demerara.
He appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which stated that the offence was committed on November 19, when he stole the vehicle, valued $3M, property of Krista Persan-Rahaman.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant had parked her car in the compound of Rent-at-Tent; Rahaman’s Park and left her keys in the ignition.
He said she saw the accused when he entered the compound to enquire about a job and, ten minutes later, the woman was altered that someone was driving her car out.
The prosecutor said the virtual complainant went into another vehicle and gave chase behind the accused who was driving away with her car.
The accused stopped and exited the car on Hunter Street, Albouystown and attempted to escape but public- spirited citizens apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
Because of his being a flight risk and his address differing from what he gave, Greaves was remanded until November 30.
