SHAKA Moore and Mark Marshall of Essequibo and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) boxing gyms respectively have been adjudged best Junior and Intermediate boxers of the recently concluded Guyana Amateur Boxing Association’s (GABA) National Intermediate Championships held on Saturday.
The competition which took place at the National Gymnasium saw Moore fight in the 100-108 pound category where he defeated Romano Bumbury of Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) after the Referee stopped the bout at 56 seconds into round two.
Marshall also recorded a referee-stopped contest (RSC) decision over Benni Persaud of Harpy Eagles Boxing gym.
Marshall’s performance was one of the many that earned The Guyana Defence Force the Best Gym award with 16 points followed by Harpy Eagles Gym with two points.
In the Intermediate Junior Welterweight category Louie Lewis (GDF) recorded a RSC win two minutes and four seconds into the second round when he defeated Aquincy Harvey (GDF).
In the welterweight category Chris Holder of GDF Gym claimed a unanimous decision over gym mate Jamal Evans.
The middleweight category saw Trevon King (GDF) win his bout after the referee stopped the contest because of Injury. King defeated Jose Chappell of Harpy Eagles Gym.
John Mars of GDF scored a knockout victory against his team mate Marlon Philadelphia 28 seconds into the round one while Dwan Phillips (GDF) won a split decision over his team mate Kenroy Evelyn.
Meawhile, Kevin Mulling of Harpy Eagles Gym defeated Quincy Wright of Essequibo Boxing Gym after a unanimous decision in the 50-54 pound category.
In the 60-64 category Teo Bunbury (FYF) won by a unanimous decision over his gym mate Orwayne Harris. Shemar Bunbury (FYF) defeated Harpy Eagles’ Kevon Mulling in the 70-74 pound category.
In the 75-79 pounds category Roy Samuel (HE) defeated John Moore (FYF); in the 85-89 pound category Cordell Walcott of Essequibo upstaged Odeny Moore and Tyron Lashley of the Rose Hall Jammers Gym won his bout (90-99lb) against Elijah Insanally of Harpy Eagles Gym.
The 100-108 pound category saw Travis Hubbard of Harpy Eagles gym gain a win over Joel Williamson of Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym.
In the 116-124 pound category Dewaini Lampkin of FYF won a unanimous decision against Keon Junior of Harpy Eagles Gym.
