Lawlessness in almost every NDC and town

THE time is now running out and the public is watching and astonished to witness lawlessness in almost every NDC and town.

Lawless behaviour is becoming a test of strength versus the might of the state. The state appears to be very fragile to enforce the laws of Guyana. Instead, the state resorts to advising, motivating and asking for consolidation in some instances of lawlessness. I am free to be corrected by anyone who feels otherwise. I will mention a few incidents and issues which plague the society.
Lawlessness is occupying road reserves and other public places. As recently as 2012-11-12, the NDC of Klein Pouderoyen, Vreed-en-Hoop, executed a demolition and clearance exercise at Vreed-en-Hoop and successfully did so in the area they targeted to clear, except one person who parked a bus, stall, and a truck on the public road reserves in a very active area who refused to remove and the NDC officers and police looked on helplessly in their demand and went away. This person for many years violated the laws of Guyana and also physically dealt with the NDC on one occasion.
They are indeed flexing their muscles at the law-keepers who exercise this clearance activity on numerous occasions. The NDC also gave this individual a spot at the Vreed-en-Hoop car park to ply their trade but rented it for a salon and returned to squatting on road reserves.
The NDC’s approach to move on the ground holistically was a wrong step in the right direction. The step in this direction gave rise to the taxpayers’ eyebrows since no prudent NDC will operate unilaterally leaving out the main stakeholder, who has the resources to execute removal forcefully, i.e. the Public Works Ministry. The NDC needs to rise from partial impotency to a more corrective and vehement approach as the situation so dictates.
There are other violations, namely:
* Trading with product on public reserves without licences, business registration, TIN, NIS and income tax and property tax…
* Erecting of buildings at the boundary line of their lands, much to the annoyance of their neighbours, etc.
* Concreting of road shoulders without approval of the Public Works Ministry which is very detrimental to public safety and also erecting barriers.
There are many other types of lawlessness and this is sporadic throughout Guyana.
It’s time for government to take a hands-on approach and return this country to its rightful place before it’s too late.
