Albion congratulate Permaul on becoming a Test cricketer

The President, Executives and Members of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club would like to congratulate Veerasammy Permaul on achieving the status of Test cricketer.

Permaul, the current captain of the Club’s first division cricket team, became the fifth cricketer from the Club to wear the maroon West Indies cap at the Test level, when he made his debut for the West Indies in the first Test match currently being played in Bangladesh against the host country.
Young Permaul’s hard work, discipline and dedication have paid off and the Club is very proud of him. The Club would like to wish him continued success and a long and outstanding international career ahead for the West Indies.
The left-arm-spinner joins left-hander Narsingh Deonarine, another Albion cricketer currently in Bangladesh with the West Indies team, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Devendra Bishoo and Seu Shivnarine as cricketers from Albion to have played Test cricket.
Permaul also became the second cricketer from Albion to have made their Test debuts within the last two years after his spin twin, leg-spinner Bishoo did so in 2011 and is the fourth Test cricketer produced by the Club within the last few years.
Shivnarine, was the Club’s first Test cricketer after making his debut in 1977, followed by Deonarine in 2005, Chattergoon in 2008, Bishoo and now Permaul.
Permaul is also the 17th cricketer from the Ancient County of Berbice to have played Test cricket and the sixth since 2005. Apart from the Albion quartet, Blairmont’s fast bowler Brendon Bess and talented Rose Hall Town left-hander Assad Fudadin, also currently a member of the West Indies Team in Bangladesh, have also played Test cricket.
Port Mourant with seven is the only other Club in Berbice to have produced more Test cricketers than Albion.
