NARESH Narine (no address given) was refused bail yesterday on a charge of unlawfully assaulting his reputed wife, Natalie Basdeo.
Before Magistrate Judy Latchman, he pleaded not guilty to having committed the offence on November 10. It was alleged that he assaulted the woman so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, successfully objected to the grant of pre-trial freedom, informing the court it is likely that the defendant will interfere with the virtual complainant if he is granted.
The prosecutor said the defendant burst the woman’s lower lip and her head following an argument between them.
The case will be called, again, on November 20.
