Two new faces in Soca Warriors for CFU semi-finals

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Trinidad and Tobago have included two uncapped home-based players to contest the Caribbean Cup group five semi-final round which starts today at the Dwight York Stadium.

Forward Hashim Harcia and midfielder Keyon Edwards are part of the final 20-man squad as the home team prepare to open their campaign in the round against St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Edwards is the joint top goalscorer in the Digicel Pro league with four goals including a hat-trick in Caledonia AIA’s 5-1 win over Police FC on Friday while Harcia is regarded as a consistent player for Connection this season.
W Connection defender Kern Cupid and Caledonia midfielder Atulla Guerra, the other top scorer in the pro league, have been recalled while Caledonia defender Aubrey David, who was once in the Guyana national team, has also earned a place in the T&T squad.
David has one cap, for T&T in a friendly against Antigua/Barbuda earlier this year.
Also making a return to national duty is Thailand-based forward Kendall Jagdeosingh who had an impressive season for Chainat FC in the Thai Premier League.
“It’s not ideal at the moment but this group of players are very hungry to achieve something,” said National senior team head coach Hutson Charles.
“We have also included two uncapped players who I believe are in good form at the moment and they deserve a look and a chance to be with the team. We’ll see how they fit into our plans and I’m confident they can bring something worthwhile to the table.”
The Group Five Qualifiers also involve Cuba and Suriname and double-headers will be played today, Friday and Sunday at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.
“We have seen that there is no way that we can take any of these teams for granted,” said Charles, a former Defence Force player.
“St Vincent, Cuba and Suriname are all in this to try and achieve success. We have to go out there and show that we want it more than they”.
The Soca Warriors booked their place in the semi-final round after victories over French Guiana, Anguilla and host country St Kitts and Nevis last month.
