Senior GDF officers ISO 9001 certified after efficiency course

SENIOR officers of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) received, on November 1, certificates of participation in a series of Lean Six Sigma–Rapid Improvement Methodology workshops.

altThe presentation took place in the Office of the Chief of Staff, at Base Camp Ayanganna, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
The Guyana Defence Force has embraced the methodology as part of its transformation efforts, and top and middle level managers collectively participated in a two-phase series of sessions, during which they employed its various tools and techniques towards the successful achievement of several of the GDF’s strategic objectives.
The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Owen Ramsay, an ISO 9001 Quality Management System Consultant, who, at the function, reiterated that, throughout the stages, the groups worked well at developing improvement projects which will make a difference as the Force undergoes its various changes.
Ramsay presented to Chief of Staff, Commodore Gary Best, twenty-one (21) different project documents arising from the exercise. In his remarks, Best emphasised that the intention is for the projects to be implemented and effect changes in the organisation.
Against the backdrop of the GDF’s current transformation process, he pointed out that, as early as next year, efforts will be made to streamline finances for implementation.
The Chief of Staff also noted that the experience was very refreshing and edifying for him and other officers.
The GDF’s endorsement and participation in the Lean Six Sigma-Rapid Improvement Methodology workshops indicate the army’s dedication to constant improvement in order to better serve the country.
Lean Six Sigma is a business management strategy that seeks to guarantee improved organisational efficiency through measurable and quantifiable returns.
