GRA employee latest road fatality

A 25-year-old motorist was on Tuesday evening  pronounced ‘Dead on Arrival’ at the Georgetown Public Hospital, after being involved in an accident on the Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara. Dead is Dorian Welcome, of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.  He was an employee of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), and functioned as a Clerk II, attached to the organization’s Frequency Management Unit (FMU).
Police said that around 23:00 hours. Welcome was driving his motor car PFF 3813, apparently on his way home, when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a fence on the western side of the road.    Police have not ruled out speeding as being responsible for the accident which resulted in Welcome’s death.
       
Welcome’s death comes less than one week after the commencement of National Road Safety Week 2012.  Police have confirmed that, for the year so far, there have been 85 road accidents and 92 deaths, seven of which were children.

Noting that most of these deaths have come about as a result o speeding, officials of the Police Traffic Department are urging motorists to take heed, and to be reminded that they have a duty, when driving, to exercise the ‘Five Cs of  Road Safety’ – Caution, Care, Courtesy, Consideration and Common-sense’.
