KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Trinidad and Tobago coach, Ross Russell, says he was not pleased with the performance of his side despite their convincing two-nil win over Puerto Rico in their opening Group A match of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-20 world cup qualifier on Monday. Shackiel Henry scored in the 32nd minute and Shaquille Nesbitt in the 90th as the twin-island republic shot to the top of the table on goal difference playing at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium.
Coach Russell seems concerned that the young Soca Warriors had missed a series of easy chances and could have won the encounter by at least five goals.
“The performance was not how I wanted it to be. We are glad for the three points because we go ahead in the group for now,” Russell told the Observer.
“I’m not worried by the chances we created but we are not putting them away. The game was a little easier than I thought and we should have finished them off in the first half.”
In the second match of the double- header, Haiti came from behind to beat Curacao, 2-1.
Haiti’s goalscorer Johnley Cheny picked up his second yellow card in stoppage time and will miss today’s Group A match against T&T after the Curacao-Puerto Rico fixture.
Both T&T and Haiti are on three points, with T&T atop the four-team group on goal difference.
Curacao and Puerto Rico are pointless.
