Since the Buxton gas station murder, Hughes became higher than the law

FROM the day Nigel Hughes allegedly removed a surveillance tape from the Buxton gas station murder scene and no one touched him, he became larger than the law.
Attorney Nigel Hughes on Thursday withdrew, in dramatic fashion, from the Commission of Inquiry probing the shooting of Lindeners on July 18.
Hughes, who was representing the families of three men killed on that day, told the Commissioners that he had

informed his clients that he could be of no further assistance to them before he exited the hearing.

The development sprang from the cross-examination of Senior Superintendent Clifton Hicken during a testy exchange between the lawyer and the officer.
At one point Hicken turned to the Commissioners and asked for their leave, but before he could complete what he was saying, Hughes interjected with “to shoot me?”
His question was dubbed an accusation by Commission Chairman Justice Lensley Wolfe, who ordered him to withdraw it or have his cross-examination terminated. Hughes contended that he had made no accusation, and therefore had nothing to withdraw.

Nigel Hughes proved to all Guyanese what a bully he is, but what he failed to realise was that these are not the judges and magistrates he, Nigel Hughes, has to contend with in Guyana’s court of law.

This is the same Nigel Hughes who gave the government a 48-hour ultimatum for Mr. Clement Rohee to resign.

Which citizen of any country can issue such an ultimatum to any government in this world?

It is now widely believed amongst most Guyanese that Nigel Hughes has in his pocket some in the judiciary, and this is the reason why he is apparently such a powerful lawyer, who represents high-profile criminals.

The time for an entire review and overhaul of the judicial system in Guyana is now, and the people know who on the inside is on the take; if not, lawyers such as Nigel Hughes will continue to make rings around the judiciary.

Nigel Hughes now knows he cannot purchase the Commissioners on the Linden Inquiry.
