THE OPENING one-day international between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Pallekele has been washed out without a ball being bowled yesterday.

Umpires decided to call the match off at 17.15hrs local time after rain had fallen steadily all day and the wash-out follows the abandoned one-off Twenty20 international at the same venue last Tuesdayt, when only 16 overs were possible.
The five-match series moves to Colombo for the second match on Sunday.
