Kumar says Guyana ready to host Suriname … Contingent of Under-15 athletes to attend games in Brazil

ACCORDING to Director of Sport (DoS) within the National Sports Commission (NSC) Neil Kumar, Guyana is well prepared to host the Suriname contingent who will be here to do battle in this weekend’s Inter-Guiana Games (IGG).

Kumar was speaking to the media in the office of Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony shortly after the Minister received a copy of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association’s Strategic Implementation Plan for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Kumar said the Surinamese will be accommodated at Ocean View Hotel, the same venue which will host the Chess battles between the two countries, with cycling and volleyball taking place at the National Park and National Gymnasium, respectively. The following week, Guyana’s basketball, football and table tennis teams will be heading to Suriname.
At the same time, Dr Anthony said a contingent of Under-15 athletes will be attending the South American School Games and the MCYS has been working with a number of school teams to take to the games, having in mind a contingent of 100.
“While this may be our first outing for these games, we see it in two contexts with the first being building a relationship with Brazil, while the participation in the upcoming games which will run from November 27 to December 7 will enhance Guyana’s participation in South American Games.”
